House of Cards’ season 5 trailer doesn’t let Claire speak, but she’s there anyway
Even though the House of Cards season 5 trailer just lets Kevin Spacey’s Frank Underwood monologue, Robin Wright’s Claire is never far from the shots.
It has been a long, cold 2017 so far without House of Cards coming back with new episodes to show just how far Frank Underwood will go in his pursuit of power. But it appears that the wait will be worth it.
Why? Netflix just dropped a trailer for season 5 that basically lets Frank tell us exactly what he thinks. (We tip our hats to Entertainment Weekly.) Although it seems addressed to the viewers, he does say Claire’s name a few times, meaning that he’s speaking to her as much as he is to us.
Frank Underwood’s Words
Now that you’ve absorbed his words, watch the trailer again, but look this time at Claire’s hairstyle. Instead of dyeing it brown, it appears that she’s going to let it grow out some more instead. Considering that this is the Underwoods we’re talking about, she probably does it to look slightly less cold and terrifying to the American people. However, it could signal a change in her character as well, perhaps springboarding off her newfound ability to break the fourth wall as seen in the fourth season.
Moreover, you can also spot Will Conway, the Underwoods’ rival for the presidency, looking at either a projected electoral map or the electoral results themselves. It’s likely the former, since a few states are greyed out, indicating their status as toss-ups, and the lighting also suggests it takes place during the day, before results would come in. Based on Frank’s monologue mentioning future campaigns for the Underwoods, we suspect that Frank will continue on as president, but that doesn’t mean that things will remain steady.
