Bob’s Burgers – Netflix
Folks didn’t really know what to make of Bob’s Burgers when it first appeared. It had a lot to prove as part of FOX’s animation lineup, and it had a hard time finding its stride in its first season. Critics compared it to other animated hits like Family Guy and American Dad, but it soon carved out a space for itself.
The Bob in Bob’s Burgers is Bob Belcher, second-generation restaurant owner. He and his family live and work in the restaurant. Bob’s wife, Linda, is in a constant state of worry about the economic state of the business, but Bob thinks his burgers can stand for themselves. He’s not above trying new and fun things with his burger creations, and his three children often get in on the fun.
One of the best things about this show is its gift of Tina Belcher, who has become quite the feminist icon in her own right. Although she’s awkward and feels a little uncomfortable in her own skin (but who doesn’t from time to time?), she is a healthy advocate for her own desires and needs. She embraces her own sexual urges, strives to accept herself for who she is, and has produced more quotable lines than any other cartoon daughter on FOX.
