We are waiting patiently for June 2nd to come around so we can finally see Wonder Woman light up the silver screen. The idea is so fabulous, there’s already talk about a part two.
Wonder Woman is a groundbreaking part of the DC Expanded Universe. From the 2017 trailer, it looks like we’re going to get a superhero who is smart, sophisticated, and skilled in the art of a**kicking. Though Gal Gadot is reprising the role for Justice League later this year, there’s already talks of what else she can do in a standalone movie. Director Patty Jenkins, who has been a superhero fan for many years, is excited to bring her to the big screen.
In this film, we’re going to learn more about Diana’s upbringing as an Amazon. And what led her to become a savior of the people. “I always thought the origin story would be the great way to go,” Jenkins told the Toronto Sun. “I love origin superhero stories and I love the simplicity you can have with that journey.”
Though there’s plenty of comic book movies out there, this is one pf the first ones where a female is taking the lead. Wonder Woman is already an iconic figure, but has fallen by the wayside in regards to live-action films. “There was the fact that no one had done her story and the fact that I love her,” Jenkins says, “So it was a treasure trove of potential.”
DC has a lot more films slated in the next few years, like Aquaman, Black Panther, and Avengers: Infinity War. If Wonder Woman delivers all the high-flying action it’s promising so far, a sequel shouldn’t be too far off. “I can’t wait to spring forward with who she is and have another great standalone superhero film,” says Jenkins.
