With Chuck Berry’s new and final album hitting shelves in June, the new tracks are trickling onto the internet. Come check out “Wonderful Woman.”

Chuck Berry’s passing on March 18 shook the rock and roll community to its core. Sure, the legend was ninety years old, but it’s something that would hurt no matter what age. Losing a legend leaves an impact.

On his ninetieth birthday back in October 2016, he announced a brand new album due out in 2017, CHUCK. Three days after his passing, it was announced it would come out June 17 of this year.

And boy, we can’t wait.

Since the announcement, we’ve been treated to “Big Boys,” a song that sounds uncannily like his hit “Johnny B. Goode.”

This week, we were treated to another new song from the album, “Wonderful Woman.” Take a listen:

It sounds a heck of a lot like much of Berry’s other work, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. There’s still a fair amount of cautious energy in the hit. You can’t say Berry’s too pooped to pop on either new song yet.

This particular song, however, has three generations of Berry men playing on it. Accompanying the man himself is Charles Jr, his son, and his grandson, Charles III. Also on the record is blues guitarist Gary Clark Jr., whom you may or may not know from his fun little appearance in Jon Favreau’s Chef.

CHUCK is an album Berry has recorded over the last 25 years, so it will be fun to listen and see what it turns out like. From what we’ve heard so far, it’s certainly exciting.

My dad would be disappointed with the lack of Johnnie Johnson on keyboards, but with Johnson having passed in 2005 (and their minor falling out in the early Seventies), it’s not much of a surprise.

CHUCK hits shelves on June 17. I’ll be preordering the vinyl version for sure.
