Rocket is on a mission. Help him break his friends out of the Collector’s Fortress in Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT.

Guardians of the Galaxy has been a hugely successful franchise. From the star power to the special effects to the music, all ages flock to the theaters to see the adventures. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 returning to theaters on May 5, the franchise buzz is on the upswing. Disney is adding to the hype with the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT.

Opening on May 27 at Disney California Adventure Park, the new ride will be an anchor to the Marvel universe area in the park. Located in the former Tower of Terror structure, the Guardians ride will feature the characters from the movie and songs from the soundtrack. The 70s themed music, from Mix Tape Vol. 1, is anticipated throughout the experience.

Since the ride is a revamp of the Tower of Terror, ride enthusiast will have a “drop” ride experience. According to several sources, the ride is anticipated to have three ride experiences. While the different experiences haven’t been revealed, the ride will feature some dark drops. One of the favorite Tower of Terror experiences was the park view as the window opened. It hasn’t been released whether the new Guardians ride will offer that view.

In addition to the drop experiences, the ride queue will follow the ride storyline. Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT follows Rocket (he’s the raccoon character) as he tries to break his Guardian friends out of the Collector’s possession. Riders must assist Rocket on his quest to free the Guardians from the Collector. Key to the escape plan is the museum’s elevator (the drop ride).

Throughout the queue, guests will see various Marvel artifacts. The Collector prides himself on a wide array of unusual items. Sources believe that the artifacts will include props from Marvel films. It is speculated that some of these props will rotate as Disney releases new Marvel films.

As the anchor of Marvel land, the Guardians ride won’t be a stand-alone attraction. Guests will have the opportunity to interact with the movie characters. Guests can participate in a Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off. It will be challenging to beat Star-Lord’s groove though.

Also, fans can participate in character meet and greets. Groot is allegedly one of the characters at the meet and greet. I would assume it’s a larger Groot versus the adorable baby Groot in Vol 2.

With this experience opening in California, speculation is raised that Hollywood Studios in Florida will also transform its Tower of Terror to a Guardians ride. With the new Pandora addition at Animal Kingdom opening on May 27, the Florida parks are bracing for a huge influx of guests. Plus, the upcoming Star Wars Land at Hollywood Studios, updates at Epcot, and possible gondolas across the Disney property, the Guardians revamp may not be a priority on the list.
