Disney’s Lion King Remake may Have Found its Timon and Pumbaa
By Andi Ortiz
Have no worries Lion King fans, it appears the live action remake has found its Timon and Pumbaa. Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner are reportedly in final talks to play the dynamic duo.
Everyone’s favorite meerkat and warthog will be back in 2019, and they just might be funnier than ever. Disney’s live action Lion King looks to be closing in on deals with comedians Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen.
Eichner and Rogen are in talks to voice Timon and Pumbaa, respectively. The casting news, first reported by The Wrap, came less than two hours after Jon Favreau revealed the film’s release date.
Two of Disney’s most memorable sidekicks, Timon and Pumbaa also gave us one of Disney’s greatest hits. Let’s get in the mindset:
Rogen is no stranger to doing voiceover work, having played Mantis in the Kung Fu Panda franchise. Most recently he lent his voice to Frank in Sausage Party. Eichner is also familiar with the world of animation, playing Chef Pig in The Angry Birds Movie and Mr. Ambrose in Bob’s Burgers.
Best known for his hosting gig on Billy On The Street, Eichner should be more than capable of capturing Timon’s jaded, sarcastic outlook. As far as Pumbaa’s personality goes, Seth Rogen has proven his ability to capture an innocent spirit with a pig-ish edge.
Eichner would be taking the reigns from Nathan Lane, while Rogen would take over for Ernie Sabella. The trio will be completed with Donald Glover starring as Simba. James Earl Jones is set to reprise his role of Mufasa.
As for Simba’s original best friend – the headstrong Nala – no official casting has been announced. But, Jon Favreau has revealed his ideal choice for Pride Rock’s queen would be Queen Bey herself.
