In one big sweep, Disney and Lucasfilm have announced the release dates of several big projects, including Star Wars: Episode IX and the next Indiana Jones.
Boy, it was only a matter of time before this particular headline sprang up. But in terms of marketing, the idea is always to wait for the opportune moment. And today is that day for Disney and Lucasfilm, two mega studios in the process of furthering the Star Wars brand, the live-action remake brand, and of course, Indiana Jones.
Now, for those who don’t know, Indiana Jones became a Disney property when Lucasfilm was acquired. While it’s commonly associated with Steven Spielberg, George Lucas first created the series.
During an unforseen onslaught of release date information, the companies announced that the next Star Wars film will be released on May 24, 2019.
As the final entry of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Episode 9 holds an interesting release date. Thanks to the success of The Force Awakens, it seemed like Disney wanted to make December Star Wars month. But both the Han Solo standalone and Episode 9 release in May now. While Han Solo’s western vibe may do well in summer, I’m going to miss the gift of Star Wars during Christmas time.
Though the fifth Indiana Jones film earned what seems like a perfect release date: July 10, 2020.
Obviously, I don’t want to be that person, but that’s kind of a long ways away for one Mr. Harrison Ford. There’s little information as to when production begins … but let’s hope it’s sooner rather than later.
