Who Would You Cast as Your Favorite Character: Sirius Black Edition

While Gary Oldman was perfect as Sirius Black in every way, there would have been some other options that also could have been great in the film series.

Alright so Gary Oldman as Sirius Black is a treasure we will always have. But here’s the thing: He was a lot older than Sirius was supposed to be. So who would have played Sirius that was the correct age? Well, according to the math of Harry Potter fans everywhere, Sirius was about 36 or 37 when he died.

Want to know what actors are around that age now? Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds, Chris Pine and about a million more. So we’re going to look quickly at this group and see what kind of movie that would have been.

Leonardo DiCaprio

Okay this would have been weird. Granted Leonardo is clearly one of our most talented actors around, this would have just been a super weird casting choice that would have had most of us questioning the sanity of the directors. But then again, we have Jude Law as Dumbledore and we’re all excited about that so really, who knows?

Christian Bale

This one isn’t a terrible choice. As someone who has loved Christian Bale and his work for years, I would have been okay with a Sirius Black played by him. He would have been a great choice and closer to the age Sirius was supposed to be. (Again, Gary Oldman is everything to me but he was too old for the role.)

Jake Gyllenhaal

As someone who just watched Jake play George in Sunday in the Park with George, I truly believe this could have been great. Weird, but great. He has this weird character actor quality about him that you wouldn’t expect and it would come in handy for this role.

So yeah, we’ll never see it and it’d be super strange to witness but it could have been interesting nonetheless.

Ryan Reynolds

Should we just laugh and move on? Ryan Reynolds is a god among men but this is one role he most definitely couldn’t play. Not saying he’d do a bad job, he just doesn’t fit the part. Sirius is a complex character and most of Ryan Reynolds’ charm comes from his humor (something Sirius has but doesn’t exactly thrive on).

Who knows though, I could be oh so very wrong but guess we’ll never know.

Chris Pine

The love of my life Chris Pine would not have been a bad choice. It would have been interesting but also just image those blue eyes being distraught by the hand life dealt him. Truly would have been great.

Basically, Gary Oldman was a great choice but also we could have had any of these hunks too so we’ll never know what we could have had in the end.
