The Joy that the Harry Potter Movies Bring to Fans Everywhere

The great dispute in the Harry Potter fandom is whether or not you’re a real fan if you haven’t read the books, so here is why the movies are important.

Every Harry Potter fan has had that fight with people who haven’t read the books. Or maybe it is just me, but it seems to be a pretty hot topic among fans of the series. I remember when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 came out, I said something about Dobby’s death an someone screamed at me since the movie had just come out.

My return sentiment was something along the lines of “Well, the book has been out for 3 years so there really isn’t any excuse”. While selfish, it was a sentiment I held throughout all the movies and even now I still think the idea of ‘spoilers’ from something based on a book is idiotic.

But that doesn’t mean fans can’t find joy in the movies alone. The thing about this series is that it always takes us somewhere truly magical. Whether that is the Hogwarts in your books or the Hogwarts on screen, we are transported to this world that J.K Rowling created for us.

So yeah, it sucks when a fan hasn’t read the books but the movies really give us a sense of home and provide us with everything we know and love. For instance, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter would be completely different without the movies.

The places we know and recognize came from those movies and so while they have their faults (like Harry’s eyes), they are very special.

So maybe the next time someone says something about only being a fan of the movies, go easy on them. They might come around some day to reading the books!
