Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s Soundtrack Will Be “A Little Different”

For a series of Marvel Cinematic Universe films that relies heavily on its soundtrack, what could Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s soundtrack be like?

It seems a touch early to start thinking about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. After all, the second film hasn’t even hit theaters yet. But when James Gunn spoke to Entertainment Weekly at Vol. 2‘s premiere, who are we to deny him the chance to tease us about the third movie?

Here’s perhaps the most interesting tidbit, which features him talking about the soundtrack for the third movie:

"“A little different.”“Just different, you know? I think we’ll have to wait for a little while, but yeah, different.”"

Well, considering the fact that the Awesome Mix Vol. 2 is already different from Vol. 1, what could Gunn mean? There are a couple of theories. First, the two volumes we already have were, in the universe of the films, put together by Peter Quill’s mother; Star-Lord found the second volume at the end of the first Guardians of the Galaxy. Unless there’s a mysterious third tape floating around, the third volume might be put together by Star-Lord himself (maybe as a present for Gamora, we’re just saying).

But perhaps, it could be that the third soundtrack will possibly incorporate some more modern music alongside the ’60s and ’70s classics we’ve come to expect from Guardians of the Galaxy. Why? Well, clips from Vol. 2 suggest that they’ll already visit Earth. Secondly, in between Vol. 2 and Vol. 3, we’ll have at least one of the two Avengers films we know about. (Alas, Vol. 3 doesn’t have a release date, but it seems likely that it’ll still follow Avengers 4. That hasn’t been confirmed, though.) We already have video of Chris Pratt on the set of Infinity War, after all, and he’s in costume.

In other words, maybe Peter Quill will discover the rest of the ’80s, ’90s grunge or even ’00s pop rock. (Okay, maybe not pop-rock.) Twitter theorists have already started to guess about, say, AC/DC showing up eventually in the Guardians flicks.
