Daenerys may have started out as a meek young woman, viewed only as a commodity by the men in her life, but all that’s changed now. You can practically chart her progression by just looking at how she’s dressed. The evolution of her wardrobe is a chronicle of her coming into her authority as a claimant to the Iron Throne.

When we first happen upon the young woman, she’s dressed in a gauzy, revealing gown. Her vulnerability is on full display as she’s forced to disrobe for her disgusting brother. However, once she becomes the Khaleesi, she starts to dress like the warrior queen she’s become. Wearing mostly leather and hard edges, she sits atop her horse commanding the army at her disposal.

Once she’s broken away from the Dothraki, however, she changes her look again, choosing to wear strong colors and equally strong lines. She’s girded up in power and authority, and uses brooches, clasps and braids to denote her strength.

She doesn’t exclusively wear the long, flowing gowns of the high-born, however. She’s known to pop on a pair of pants when she has to ride on top of her dragon. She’s the picture of royalty and regality and she demands to respected.
