This is Us Actor Headed to Supergirl for a James Olsen-Centric Episode

Get ready, This is Us fans: The boy who plays young Randall is heading to National City to appear alongside Mehcad Brooks in a big James Olsen episode.

Every day that Supergirl makes the headlines is a good day. But today’s news has nothing to do with Supergirl or Kara Zor-El. Instead, we turn our attention to a different member of Cat Co.

In what seems to be The CW Way, they’re making up for all the episodes that James Olsen either wasn’t in or only appeared in one scene by giving him an episode dedicated solely to his character development. While the old saying posits that two wrongs don’t make a right, at the very least, we’re getting some pure James Olsen-y goodness.

As TVLine exclusively learned on Monday, This is Us star Lonnie Chavis has booked a gig on Supergirl. The episode, “City of Lost Children,” will see Chavis’ character and Mehcad Brooks’ James Olsen bond after the former’s mother attacks National City.

When the second season began, Olsen felt compelled to help others and carry the shield as a vigilante. So recently, Olsen has straddled the world between Cat Co. boss and National City’s masked Guardian. But he’s faced a few setbacks that include Kara’s disapproval and the reality that he doesn’t have any superpowers.

Struggle On

According to David Harewood, our very own space dad, J’onn J’onzz, the struggle apparently continues:

"“James is reluctant to step in and help somebody, and I persuade him, as a hero, that sometimes you have to go against your own instincts and do something that’s right, as opposed to what you think might be right.”"

Yes, sometimes, James picks and chooses what he wants to believe in as opposed to remaining as steadfast as say … Kara. But he most definitely has a long way to go before he becomes a powerful asset to the DEO. If he wants to fight alongside Alex instead of being saved by Alex, he needs more gadgets and more training.
