Jen Short – Life in Pieces

Jen is the cool city girl transplanted by her nerdy husband to the suburbs. She is forced, via hostage situation, to spend a lot of time with her husband’s eccentric family, and she does a lot of eye rolling. She’s definitely a good sport, but she is a fish out of water among this kooky bunch.

She never loses her wit and approaches every situation with the exact right amount of sarcasm, reluctant acceptance, and skeptical resignation. She’s the kind of friend you want to bring with you to your family reunion, so she can lovingly snark on all the things you know you hate. She’s also going to be a joiner, because she gets it. She knows there’s no use fighting a bad situation — she’s the kind who will just lean into it, make sassy comments, and get through it.

Nobody likes a complainer, but everybody loves someone who can recognize, and then make fun of, an awkward situation, and diffuse any weirdness. That’s Jen. She has enough practice (with the hubs’ family) with strange and bizarre characters, so nothing surprises this woman anymore. She has a comeback for everything, and I would save her seat next to me at any event.
