7. What’s Going on with Finn?
The above image shows the only glimpse we get of Finn throughout the entire trailer. Unsurprisingly, much of the footage shows Rey instead. (She is, after all, practically the face of the new trilogy.)
It seems like it may be an advanced version of a bacta tank, similar to how Luke had to spend a brief time in recovery after his encounter with a wampa in The Empire Strikes Back. Granted, Luke was up and walking in about five minutes of movie time, whereas Finn has been out of commission since the end of The Force Awakens.
However, for those worrying about Finn not playing a part at all, you can rest easy already. During The Last Jedi panel at Star Wars Celebration Orlando, not only was John Boyega himself on hand to describe a bit of Finn’s journey, a few behind-the-scenes snapshots taken by director Rian Johnson actually showed Finn standing upright (and wearing what appears to be a spiffy new jacket, not the one he received from Poe) and, perhaps more importantly, on the same set as Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma).
Boyega said that Finn will have to choose between fleeing the First Order and staying with the Resistance, but somehow, we get the feeling he’ll go with the latter.
