Jimmy Kimmel premiered a clip from “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” and something very weird is going on in it. We have some thoughts on its possibilities.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is less than a month away, but we still clamor at every new clip. Because we’re Marvel fanatics and need every single piece of information.
Jimmy Kimmel had a tiny, tiny bit of information. In a skit that sends Kimmel’s right-hand man Guillermo to the set, we are offered a ten-second clip from the movie. Because Guillermo happens to be an extra in the scene.
Check it out below, the clip itself is at the 6:06 mark:
Okay, so this is nothing like we’ve seen in trailers and clips so far. It looks like this is on Earth with all those normal-looking people and cell phones, but what the heck is it?
Obviously, it’s whatever brings the Guardians to Earth. But is it something that will tie into Avengers: Infinity War (with so many movies still between this and Infinity War)? Is it Thanos’s doing or something larger? James Gunn has already made it a point that Thanos and Infinity Stones won’t be showing up like the last Guardians of the Galaxy.
The easiest answer is that it’s just a different form of Kurt Russel’s Ego. You know, Ego, the Living Planet? Star-Lord’s father? So far in previews we’ve only seen his human form, but he is something much bigger. They don’t calling him the Living Planet for nothing.
But this looks less like a planet and more like a gelatinous blob. The movies always take liberties with the source material. Maybe Kurt Russell has multiple forms he can take.
What are your thoughts? Is my Ego the Living Planet completely off-base? Let us know in the comments.
