Ralph Fiennes Talks About Voldemort’s Weird Laugh
By Jenn Reid
Ralph Fiennes revealed he doesn’t remember why Voldemort’s iconic cackle is the way that it is.
Ralph Fiennes gave us some incredible moments as the Dark Lord Voldemort throughout the Harry Potter series, but Deathly Hallows Part 2 gave us some of the most iconic moments. Particularly, after he believes Harry has died and offers up the most bizarre laugh of all time.
Voldemort was far from funny in the books, but Fiennes was able to bring some levity to the character with these totally awkward and meme-able moments.

What was going on through Fiennes’ mind while filming Voldemorts laugh? Well, we’ll never know.
Fiennes recently took part in the School of Life event in London, where he told philosopher Slavoj Zizek that he doesn’t even remember doing it!
"“I can’t actually remember what that scene was or why I did it,” he said."
What an anti-climactic answer! He doesn’t even remember why he made the ultimate villain of eight movies go “EHHHH HEHEHE” and give a little awkward jig when he announces that Harry Potter is dead?
Fiennes is a veteran actor of stage and screen, so it’s possible it was something he did in the moment, much like when he gives Draco the most uncomfortable looking hug.
Tom Felton revealed at a convention in 2011 that the Draco/Voldemort hug wasn’t in the script. He and Ralph Fiennes had done multiple takes of Draco joining the death eaters, and during one random take, Fiennes decided to hug him. Felton thought it felt menacing, and the filmmakers must have agreed as they put it in the film.
