Jessica Jones Adds Oscar Nominee Janet McTeer For Season 2

Just days into filming season 2 of Jessica Jones, Janet McTeer has been added to the season 2 cast in a mysterious and reportedly major role.

Janet McTeer, who is known best for The White Queen, The Woman in BlackDamages and Me Before You, will play an “undisclosed character who will have an enormous impact on Jessica’s life” on the second season of Jessica Jones.

And everyone, it seems, it psyched about it. (Including me.)

Here’s what Marvel’s Jeph Loeb had to say, per Entertainment Weekly:

"“We are so fortunate to have an actress of Janet’s talent and stature join what is already an incredible cast. Our second season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones aims to capture what audiences loved about our first, and Janet will be key to achieving that goal.”"

Meanwhile, Netflix’s vice president of content, Cindy Holland, praised McTeer’s skills in front of the camera:

"“Janet McTeer is the consummate actor, slipping seamlessly into each character she brings to life. We’re thrilled to have her join the outstanding cast, led by the fearless Krysten Ritter.”"

Given what little we know about the second season, and considering it just started filming earlier this week, the possibilities as to who McTeer could be playing are endless. A long lost family member? Another superhero? Some sort of militant leader? Good guy, bad guy, who knows?

All I know is – I am so here and ready for it.

It has been confirmed that Jessica Jones second season will, once again, have 13 episodes, and all 13 episodes will be directed by female directors – per the order of series creator Melissa Rosenberg.

No premiere date has been announced as of yet (though, 2018 is looking likely), but The Defenders, which features Jones, will be premiering on August 18 as an 8 episode mini series on Netflix.
