Aja Naomi King
Aja Naomi King would look so awesome in the Batgirl suit. Full stop. It’s simply a matter of fact. She packs so much heart and attitude in every role that I think not casting her as Batgirl / Barbara Gordon could be an incredible mistake.
Of course, she’s obviously best known for playing Michaela Pratt on ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder. She plays a sharp, aspiring lawyer who is a natural born leader. In the most recent season, she transitioned to the group’s leader and acted as the “pull yourself together” glue that held them together. This character type is a reflection of Batgirl’s own persona as either the girl in the cape or the one behind a computer.
Barbara Gordon’s a very nuanced character, and Aja Naomi King can clearly handle that. It’s not just about action or grappling hooks. I would like to see a woman with, dare I say, a full range of emotions who a) doesn’t have feelings for Batman / Bruce Wayne or b) doesn’t think she’s a monster for not being able to have kids like Scarlet Witch in Age of Ultron.
Let’s not do that again, Joss Whedon.
