This may or may not be a hot take, but I can definitely say that I loved the new Power Rangers movie that came out in theaters last month. I really, really loved it. Was it cheesy? Definitely. But you have to remember that the entire Power Rangers franchise has always been cheesy.
However, I thought the performances of all the teenagers was particularly nuanced. Arguably, Naomi Scott is like the third best (I loved Jason Scott and Billy Cranston the most). But I still thought she did a really good job taking the mantle from the original Kimberly Hart, Amy Jo Johnson.
To be fair, Naomi Scott has some room to grow and some people may not want her to stretch her wings as a bat. But I think Joss Whedon can hone in on her skills and elevate her to where she needs to be in the DCEU. More importantly, Scott probably doesn’t come with the same price tag as … say … the first two people on this list.
Like, how cool would it be if Naomi Scott could say she’s famous for being the Pink Ranger and Batgirl? I can’t even wrap my brain around it right now.
