Game of Thrones Season 7: What Does Ed Sheeran’s Cameo Look Like?

Although the next season of Game of Thrones is still a few months away, Ed Sheeran has dropped some hints about what to expect when we see his cameo.

Every day brings us one step closer to sitting down (pun intended thanks to that now-famous teaser) with Game of Thrones once more and watching some fresh episodes with mostly-familiar faces. Granted, some of those faces will be familiar for their work outside the show like that of Ed Sheeran. Our sister site, Winter is Coming, has found the Daily Star‘s work picking Sheeran’s brain. Alas, there isn’t much, but there are a few things to break down.

First, he said that he shot scenes with Maisie Williams, but also that he’s “only in it for like five minutes.” With time at such a premium this season, thanks to the fact that there are only seven episodes, it makes sense that the writers wouldn’t drag his cameo out. That isn’t to say that having Sheeran on the show is a waste of time, but we don’t know if said cameo will really push Arya’s story forward or if it’s more there as, shall we say, fanservice. (One wonders how much the Ed Sheeran and Game of Thrones fandoms intersect.)

Here, though, is where we get into some mild spoilers for season 7.

Now, WiC speculates that Sheeran may play a Frey, thanks to the shooting-with-Williams tidbit. We disagree. After all, we have reason to believe that the Starks will reunite sometime in season 7. Assuming that the hair and makeup department didn’t make Sheeran unrecognizable, he’ll probably have his bright ginger hair. Most of the redheads we know on the show are wildlings, with the notable exceptions of Sansa and Catelyn Stark.

We’re not saying that Ed Sheeran is playing a wildling, but we have the feeling he might be playing a wildling.

Maybe what ends up happening is that Ed Sheeran’s character makes his interests known in the Lady Arya when she shows up at Winterfell, and she dissuades him of such interests? After all, Sheeran told the Daily Star that he does live through this five-minute cameo. It could even help if Jon, who had an older-sibling relationship with Arya back before everything became terrible, sees that she doesn’t need his protection anymore.
