Ever since the prequels emerged, many of us have hoped for a Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone starring Ewan McGregor. Are we finally getting what we asked for?
On this day, the celebration of the birth of Ewan McGregor, the rumor mill is spinning. Apparently there is news from Kathleen Kennedy that suggests we’re finally going to get our answer about the Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone film.
For those who have been out of the loop, we’ve all been asking for a standalone starring Ewan McGregor for years. In the darkness that were those three prequels, his Obi-Wan is something we can truly cherish from those terribly written movies.
And for years he has wanted to play Obi-Wan once more. So why wait so long? Well part of it was George Lucas and his lack of motivation to work on another Star Wars film. Other reasons were timing. It just wasn’t right. So now that we’re getting more and more standalone films from the normal episodes, can we expect an announcement on the Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone?
Well, according to Bleeding Cool, the rumor came from a Star Wars site and has a lot of specific details about the film in question:
"Kathleen Kennedy and the rest of Lucasfilm fully intend to make an Obi-Wan movie set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, with Ewan McGregor in tow."
Name dropping Kathleen Kennedy alone is a big deal.
