The 100 Season 4 Episode 8 “God Complex” Recap

The 100 returned this week with episode 8 “God Complex” and season 4 continues to be one giant parallel of the show’s past.

We’ve had about 18 different storylines going on during these past 7 episodes so things were beginning to feel more and more like the 3rd season. However, by this episode’s end, things are coming together nicely and it’s possible that we finally found the one chance to save humanity. And shockingly enough, the person we least expected is to be thanked for it.

I’ll take “Jaha’s redemption arc” for 800, please.

With that being said, let’s recap the (hopefully) last of the plots where all our fav characters are on different parts of the planet.

I bear it so they don’t have to.

Let’s kick off this review over at Science Island, where morality is gone and the points don’t matter. Okay, bad joke. It’s very clear that most people are questioning what the f*ck they’re doing to this human turned lab rat but one thing that’s for certain is that Clarke Griffin couldn’t care less about him. And in case none of us were clear that this whole thing was reminiscent of Mount Weather, Raven was there to remind us. And to give Clarke the once-over that she deserved. They were also there to remind us of Lexa (as they have been throughout the entirety of the season), but I digress.

Now we’re going to play a game called, How many times can someone lie to themselves to make it seem like what they’re doing is okay?

"“First we survive. Then we find out humanity again.” –Abby“Then we die, knowing we did everything we did to save our people.” -Roan"

All the judgment from Raven, Luna, and Murphy must’ve taken a toll on Clarke. So when Clarke was given the needle, she shot herself up with Luna’s bone marrow instead. Why didn’t anyone sacrifice themselves in the first place? If “sacrifice is what’s required for survival” then shouldn’t our so-called “heroes” be the ones sacrificing themselves?

Anyway, Abby went and messed everything up anyway by destroying the radiation chamber. She claims she saw Clarke dying in there. Kinda like Raven saw the rocket. So there goes that plan.

Whatever the hell we want.

"“I saw, I’m just not afraid of it happening to me.”"

Jasper’s story line is quickly becoming one of my favorites. His depression is so real and the writer’s capture it so intricately. Anyone who struggles with depression even in the slightest understands that you can have moments of the highest highs and the lowest lows. I think those highs are rarity to see on TV. Just because someone is struggling with depression doesn’t mean they’re sitting in a ball in their room all day (although that can be true for many. Some mask it. Some put on a happy face. Some know exactly how to hide it.

"“The clock is ticking and it has been since we landed on this terrible, beautiful planet.”"

Real talk though, Jasper dropped some serious advice this episode. Usually it’s Kane giving the dad advice to Bellamy but I think Bellamy heard it better when it came from Jasper. They’ve both been through think and thin together. They’ve survived on Earth together from the beginning. Although Bellamy and Kane’s relationship is strong and important, I think Bellamy needed to finally hear this from Jasper.

"“What is the point of beating yourself up over all of the crappy things you’ve done? You did them. And don’t say you had reasons because at the end of the day, at the end of the world, nobody gives a damn about your reasons because they are your reasons. No matter how much you punish yourself; it’s not going to change anything. It’s not going to bring anyone back.”"

I’m not saying that Bellamy needs to give up and stop trying to save the end of the world. But I am saying that the weight of the world sits on his shoulders everyday from the guilt he feels for everything he’s done. And you gotta let that shit go. Especially when the world is potentially ending. Relax; have a drink! So that’s exactly what they did.

From the ashes we will rise.

Jaha did it. His redemption arc has finally arrived and his “purposefully get everyone into the city of light” mistake can

finally

maybe be forgiven. I guess we’ll see what Ilian has to say about that. He seems like the one with the biggest grudge.

But in all honestly, we all knew this black blood transfusion stuff wouldn’t work. Could you imagine the amount of black blood they would need to make and then the amount of labor and energy spent getting it administered to everyone. Talk about a boring last half of the season. Jaha’s storyline was not going to go ignored.

"“What if it’s not just a motto? What if it’s an instruction?”"

Monty with the save once again! And Clarke didn’t put him on The List™- HA! Some leader she’s turning out to be.

War is brewing, Clarke.

So we have a bunker to hide in- great! Thank you, Jaha (and Monty)! But that doesn’t mean that all is hunky dory on the ground. Literally everyone hates each other. Trikru thinks Skaikru betrayed them. Some of Azgeda still doesn’t trust Skaikru. Trikru hates Azgeda. And we all know Trishanakru hates Skaikru.

I mean, we’re not even sure how big this bunker is. I’m fairly confident that every person left on Earth isn’t going to fit in it though. So who gets first dibs? Whoever has the most warriors to fight their way in? And how long do they have to stay in there? Just through the praimfaya? What about the black rain though?

I have so many questions, and so many weeks to ponder them.

Random Thoughts:

  • “For this, we’ll need thinkers, not fighters.” *Superhero theme plays in the background* Monty!!
  • Drunk Harper is my favorite Harper.
  • I guess we have another natblida now. How much are we betting that Clarke Griffin becomes the next commander? I mean, it has to come in handy somehow that she just shot herself up with Luna’s bone marrow.
  • “How’s the weather Reyes? Forecast still calls for our death?” John Murphy proving to be the funniest one in the bunch still.
  • Raven sticking up for Emori when Roan calls her a “freikdreina” WAS EVERYTHING.
  • Gaia is the only one who treats Chip Lexa with the respect she deserves, which means Gaia is my new favorite.
  • Were you playing a drinking game called “every time Raven mentions Mount Weather or Roan mentions Lexa- DRINK” too?
  • Indra taking out about 15 Azgeda warriors with one swipe of an automatic will forever be my aesthetic. Go. Girl. You’re forgiven for punching Kane in the face.
  • Funny how Bellamy finds the most Clarke-looking girl at the party.
  • Also, Bellamy smiled. When’s the last time we saw that?
  • John Murphy’s high-pitched cry for Emori’s life broke me in places that I didn’t even know existed.
  • I need to know what is happening to Raven and Abby’s brain and I needed to know this weeks ago.
  • I can’t go 4 weeks without a new episode. I just can’t. Good people don’t deserve this.
