Wonder Woman Animated Movie to Be Re-released
By April Jones
A special edition of the 2009 animated Wonder Woman movie will be released by Warner Bros. in May 2017 in digital format and on Blu-ray/DVD.
Perhaps one of the most underrated movies of the DC Universe is the Wonder Woman animated film, originally released in 2009. In 2015, Warner Home Video issued a special DVD/Blu-ray combo pack.
This May, Warner Bros. will release yet another special edition titled Wonder Woman: Commemorative Edition which will include bonus features and a sneak preview of an upcoming Harley Quinn and Batman animated movie produced by Bruce Timm.
The bonus features are said to be tied into various 75th anniversary celebrations. Naturally, the animated version will also get to ride the waves of the expected success of the live action Wonder Woman movie coming to theaters in June.
The animated version stars Keri Russell providing the voice of Wonder Woman/Diana Prince with Nathan Fillion acting as the voice of Steve Trevor. Rosario Dawson voices Artemis while Alfred Molina is behind the mic as Ares, the god of war. Additional voice talents in Wonder Woman include Virginia Madsen as Diana’s mother, Hippolyta, Marg Helgenberger as Hera, and David McCallum as Zeus. Tara Strong, in one of her many voice-acting roles, lends her talents to the character of Alexa, Diana’s Amazonian sister.
Written by Gail Simone and Michael Jelenic, the plot of Wonder Woman sticks to the “Gods and Mortals” story arc that began in the late 80s. Wonder Woman sets off to New York City to return Steve Trevor after his crash-landing on Themyscira. While she’s there, she begins her quest to track down Ares and put an end to his plans of destruction and domination.
