Star Wars: The Last Jedi Footage Makes An Appearance at CinemaCon 2017

Not quite a trailer but more than a featurette, Disney is making sizzle reels a thing again by dropping The Last Jedi footage at this year’s CinemaCon.

For those of you who don’t know, CinemaCon is the place where studios get a chance to wow movie theater people with their projects in an effort to secure a wider release. Big theater chains and industry people (and now, media folk) get to get together and talk about big blockbusters, and more importantly, box office projections. Like any other convention, it’s where you get to strut your stuff, but there will always be certain events more anticipated than others.

In this case, it’s Disney.

While more and more people have been getting their eyeballs on Star Wars: The Last Jedi, this week gave investors and members of the media a chance to see what exactly this December has in the store for us. Like last year’s Rogue One events, they showed folks in attendance a sizzle reel consisting of some of Disney’s upcoming projects … including some glimpses of Star Wars: The Last Jedi! But before your shoulders drop with disappointment, there is new information making its way around the internet.

Outlets like Fandango, Slashfilm, and io9 all saw the footage and pretty much all agree that it was awesome, and of course, that Rey is, in fact, in The Last Jedi. Bonus: she touches a lightsaber again.

Now, what I can’t decide is whether Luke takes the lightsaber, bedazzles it, and then gives it back to her. Or if he doesn’t even want to lay hands on it. He probably prefers the green at this point. Or maybe he’s built an even newer lightsaber. I mean, just consider how important Kyber Crystals have been to the franchise lately.

I can’t wait to see some footage at Star Wars Celebration Orlando this year.

I’m kidding … they better show a trailer.
