Alec Baldwin Almost Turned Down Play Trump on Saturday Night Live
When it comes to this season of Saturday Night Live, Alec Baldwin’s Trump is definitely a staple of the show but it almost didn’t happen.
Alec Baldwin has become a staple of Saturday Night Live this season but it was almost just wishful thinking. Meaning that Baldwin almost turned down the role.
Before Alec decided to take on Trump, he needed some encouragement. Both Tina Fey and Lorne Michaels told him that he’d be great for the part and tried to convince him to take it. In his Vanity Fair cover story, Alec talked about what he thought about in regards to taking the role.
"“When Lorne called me and asked, ‘Do you want to do this?,’ I said, ‘No, I don’t want to be Trump on TV!’ Because anytime you do any kind of mimicry, it’s of somebody that you appreciate. I didn’t hate Trump. I just didn’t want to play him. But Tina and Lorne pushed me, so I finally said yes.”"
But that’s not the first time he had Tina Fey giving him advice. The two worked together on 30 Rock and apparently, he used to have the hots for Tina.
"“When I first met Tina Fey — beautiful and brunette, smart and funny, by turns smug and diffident and completely uninterested in me or anything I had to say — I had the same reaction that I’m sure many men and women have: I fell in love.”"
And can you blame him? Who isn’t in love with Tina Fey? Either way, that would have been an interesting relationship to say the least.
