3. She’s open to criticism

Here’s a quality that Dany possesses that some folks online could really benefit from. She knows how to listen to staunch and helpful criticism of her actions.

Consider this scene, where she wants revenge for an attack on the city of Meereen. She sacked it, and was thereby allowed to rule. Tyrion, who slowly but surely becomes her most trusted adviser, reminds her of what happened the last time a Targaryen wanted heated revenge: the countless deaths at the hand of her father, the mad king Aerys. The look on Dany’s face during this exchange is quite telling. She knows he’s right because she has said she wants to be a much better leader than her father. So she heeds his warning, albeit silently.

People like Dany need a strong person to check them and hold the mirror up when things get too rough. The Dragon Queen herself has a strong personality, which makes it more difficult to examine one’s own actions. Dany knows she’s the alpha in any room, but her ego never gets in the way. That allows her to listen to other people who also are strong-willed, giving her a whole new perspective on things.

The people of Meereen still have to pick up the pieces of their city after the Great Masters were finally wiped out in Season 6. Dany chose Daario to lead, someone she had love for but knew his place was better in charge of her city. Her advisers led her in the right direction which was ultimately the correct choice for her to do. Only a great listener can pull that off.
