Feud: Bette and Joan Episode 4 Trailer and Synopsis
By Tina Wargo
The ladies’ obsession with remaining relevant will kick into high gear as their film gets ready for release on Feud: Bette and Joan episode 4.
For the first three weeks of this magnificently glam bio-series, we focused on our leading ladies’ fight to get themselves back in the pictures, and subsequently, back into the headlines. They struggled against the studio heads’ initial refusal to dedicate an entire film to “old broads,” journalists’ devotion to documenting their individual comebacks and their unwillingly shared spotlight, and, of course, their years-long beef with each other.
But this week, it looks like we’ll be delving a little deeper into a phenomenon that’s been implied all along, but that we’ve merely scratched the surface of: the women’s insecurities and their skewed views of themselves within the context of the toxic Hollywood system.
Check out the trailer below for a sneak peek into the next chapter of Feud:
Along with the personal calamities we’ll bear witness to in the next episode, it looks like we’ll also be thrown into the exciting and glittery world of Oscar season! Now that filming has been completed on Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?, and Hedda Hopper’s done her darndest to pit the women against each other (not that she had to try too hard) in the Oscar race, we’ll get to see the real-life events that played out in the awards season of 1963. The official synopsis below promises a sure-to-be intriguing mix of Hollywood history, subdued, secret 1960’s feminism, and, as ever, fireworks in the actual feud department.
"On the eve of its release, bad word-of-mouth plagues Baby Jane; Bette and Joan brace for failure; Pauline tries to break gender barriers; and Oscar nominations are announced."
Episode 4 will put us as the halfway point of the season, and I think I speak for all of us who’ve been devouring the show as voraciously as the women chew their scenery when I say that it’s just gonna keep getting better from here.
