Breath of the Wild may take The Legend of Zelda series in a different direction, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t full of references to games that came before.
With a series that has as much history as The Legend of Zelda, which released a set of amiibo to commemorate its 30th anniversary last year, does it really come as a surprise that the most recent game, Breath of the Wild, is packed full of little winks and nods to the history of the series and specific games.
It shouldn’t. Zelda has done this before, and it will always continue to do this. However, that doesn’t mean that a player will pick up on every single reference. In fact, the following list is by no means exhaustive, and it’s not meant to be. Even the most experienced of players will probably miss a few things, after all. The title says “15 Most Awesome Zelda References in Breath of the Wild,” and that’s what we’re about to look at.
From the subtle to the obvious, we’re about to take you on a journey through Breath of the Wild and a dose of history from The Legend of Zelda as a series. Obviously, there are a huge amount of spoilers to follow, including for earlier games. Consider this your only warning.
