“Who?” you may be asking. “What’s a Hellcat and why should I care about its costume?”
Oh, dear, sweet friend. It’s true that Patsy Walker, a.k.a. “Hellcat”, is one of the lesser-known superheroes in the comics world. However, her star is rising, thanks in part to a few well-placed comics appearances and her own ongoing title, Patsy Walker A.K.A. Hellcat!
Walker’s costume is pretty simple. It’s a bright yellow bodysuit enhanced by clawed gloves and sensible shoes. It isn’t cluttered up by a lot of pouches or designs. Hellcat doesn’t bother with sashes or medallions, either. Her only extravagance seems to be the long, flowing red hair that emerges from beneath her hood-style mask.
Walker inherited the costume from Greer Grant Nelson, a former superhero known as the Cat. Patsy had gained it by befriending Beast (a.k.a., Hank McCoy, of the X-Men and the Avengers) and asking for his help in becoming a superhero. While she eventually develops superpowers after time spent in Hell (believe it or not), original-flavor Patsy was just a very enthusiastic human.
She also sports a half-mask with cat ears. Rather than looking cute, however, the mask typically lends a kind of weird, animalistic flair to her costume. Overall, Hellcat’s look is clean, classic, and striking.
