20. Good Omens

The Book: Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman

The Story: Good Omens is a comedy novel about the End of Times. The angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley both work to sabotage the end of times, having grown comfortable with their life on earth. It’s a comedy of errors with the two trying to prevent the apocalypse by watching over the Antichrist, not knowing the son of Satan was accidentally switched at birth with a normal boy.

The Adaptation: This one is a no-brainer. It’s one of the most popular and beloved fantasy novels of all time. It’s funny, enthralling and should have been adapted by now. There was plans to do a movie back in 2002, with Terry Gilliam ready to direct and Johnny Depp and Robin Williams to star. That ultimately didn’t end up happening but Gilliam kept trying to make it happen, until about 2011.

Gaiman then said they were working on a TV show in 2013, and then in 2016 confirmed he was writing the script for an Amazon series. So, it’s happening! Good Omens is going to be a six-episode series for Amazon, set to air in 2018. No cast has been announced yet.
