9. Anything by Rick Riordan

The Books: Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Heroes of Olympus, The Kane Chronicles and Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard

The Story: This might be cheating since it’s about four different series, but each one is worthy of being mentioned. Rick Riordan is one of the most respected writers of children’s fantasy, second to only JK Rowling. His first series was Percy Jackson and the Olympians, about a young boy who discovers he’s the son of the Greek god Poseidon. The story weaves together Greek mythology, fantasy and action. After the massive success of the Percy Jackson series, Riordan took on Egyptian mythology (The Kane Chronicles), revisited the Greek pantheon (The Heroes of Olympus) and has now dove into Norse mythology as well (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard).

The Adaptation: Is it too much to ask for all these series to make their way to Netflix? We can either remake the Percy Jackson movies from 2005, or treat them as canon and make The Heroes of Olympus which was a sequel anyway. Then there’s a separate show for The Kane Chronicles and yet another for Magnus Chase. Approach them the way Marvel does its Netflix shows: each has its own storyline and distinct feel, but a few cameos or Easter eggs make it vital to watch them all.
