A Look Ahead at the Final Few Episodes of HBO’s Hit Series Girls

Deep insecurities, a boatload of self-acceptance, and a surprise pregnancy are just a few of the major events we’ve witnessed as HBO’s Girls comes to a bittersweet end.

2017 is the year of honesty. People are being more honest with one another, but more importantly with themselves. That’s been an ongoing theme in the final season of HBO’s hit comedy/drama Girls, and we’re sad it has to come to a close. But, here we are, with just five episodes to go.

We have a look at the final three episodes of Girls, airing in April, and from the sound of it, we could be headed for more fractures from this one fearless foursome. Fair warning: possible spoilers ahead.

From the synopses, Episodes 6 and 7 will continue to explore Hannah’s (Lena Dunham) pregnancy, where she’ll eventually meet back up with Paul-Louis (Riz Ahmed), her baby’s father. Marnie (Allison Williams) is still ungluing herself from toxic relationships, as Elijah (Andrew Rannells) tries to better himself away from an Adderal-fueled haze.

Let’s take a look at what Episodes 8, 9, and 10 will bring us.

Episode 8 –  “What Will We Do This Time About Adam?”

"Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) slogs through helping Ray (Alex Karpovsky) with his oral-history project, until a fortuitous run-in with Abigail (Aidy Bryant), her old boss, infuses the venture with new energy."

We’re not sure what oral-history project this is referring to, but based on how much time Ray is spending at Hermie’s apartment (R.I.P.) he could be setting something up in his honor. And it looks like he’s spending even more time with Shoshanna,  meaning the chemistry they once had could be picking back up.

Since his name is in the title, there’s bound to be more about Adam’s movie (where he explores his relationship with Hannah), including much more for Jessa (Jemima Kirke) to be jealous of.

Episode 9 – “Goodbye Tour”

"After an important meeting, Hannah reaches out to friends for advice, but has trouble reaching Marnie."

What meeting? An OBGYN appointment? Or something to do with Hannah’s writing career? It also comes as no surprise to us that she’d be having trouble with Marnie. That poor girl has been through the ringer and back (though she’s not entirely blameless for that), but she’s the constant Girls character who never has her head screwed on quite right.

Episode 10 – “Latching”

It’s the final episode. We’ve been watching these women grow since 2012, and now it’s finally time to let them go. The synopsis is simple, just one sentence that’s so easily relatable to anyone working so hard to find their path in life.

"Hannah embarks on a new chapter."

“Latching” may refer to what newborns do to feed off mom’s milk supply, but as we know, babies can’t suckle at the teat forever. It refers to a very specific part of development, something that Hannah may have been doing to her friends for far too long. Perhaps when she finally lets go, she’ll be in a much better place (with a brand new baby to boot).

The question is, are we ready to let go of Girls? The end is nigh, and there may be a few tears shed. But we had a good run, finding love and the values of friendship along the way.

Next: Girls Recap: “Gummies” – Season 6, Episode 5

The next episode of Girls premieres this Sunday, March 19th on HBO at 9:00 p.m. From the promo, it looks like we’re going to meet Hannah’s father’s boyfriend again (the boot dealer from Season 5’s “Good Man”) as well as deal with more of Desi’s addiction issues.
