Alicia and Grace

It’s probably a little intimidating to have this powerful, poised, incredibly powerful attorney and politician as a mother, but it’s also pretty useful. Alicia Florrick is a role model in about a million different ways, and if her daughter, Grace, knows what good for her, she’ll be taking notes about everything.

Alicia didn’t start off being a queen boss. Nope. Just a few short years before she was eating lawyer-hearts for breakfast, she was a stay at home mother, who’s politician-husband slept with hookers and went to jail. She stood by his side, kept her chin, and didn’t flinch once in the face of humiliation and recrimination.

She worked her way up through the ranks of a successful law firm, starting her career over, alongside colleagues who were decades younger. She showed them all up, becoming partner and then starts her own firm.

All this may sound like I’m talking about her life, but all along the way, Alicia provided an extraordinary example for Grace. But Grace wasn’t removed from her mother or forced to admire her from a distance. She was a present mother, warmer and more nurturing than she was given credit for.
