3/14, Pi Day, celebrates the irrational number that continues into infinity and it is the perfect excuse to eat some sweet and savory pie.

Pi, the number, can cause some people to have a terrible flashback to math class. Pi, represented by the Greek letter, is the “ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter.” (PiDay.org) The number is approximately 3.14 but has been calculated into infinity. On March 14, 3/14, mathematicians, pie lovers, and people who just appreciate an entertaining holiday celebrate pi day.

In 2009 Congress passed a resolution celebrating National Pi Day. This day is celebrated not only in the United States but around the world. The celebration recognizes the importance of math and science education around the world. The day encourages schools to support teaching activities about the number pie and the study of mathematics.

Since math may not be everyone’s favorite school subject, the celebration has often turned to food. From sweet pies to savory pies, and even pizza pies, National Pi Day has become a foodies dream.
