9. Jerry Seinfeld, TBA
Coming to Netflix: TBA
It’s no exaggeration to say that Jerry Seinfeld’s eponymous sitcom was one of the definitive shows of the 1990s, and thrust Seinfeld into the pop culture zeitgeist for all eternity. That’s probably why Generation X was thrilled to find out that Seinfeld got commissioned for not one, but two, stand up specials, which are sure to make every list of the 15 Netflix comedy specials critics will recommend the most.
But that’s not all there is to Jerry Seinfeld’s Netflix deal: in addition to the two stand-up specials, Seinfeld will be moving his hit show, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, to Netflix from Crackle, and he will be rolling out at least 24 new episodes of the show in 2018. And while Hulu still owns the right to the original Seinfeld sitcom, Jerry Seinfeld will be working with Netflix to develop both “scripted and unscripted” content. The details of this multi-faceted deal have not yet been made public, but expect the full Seinfeld takeover to happen by the end of the year.
