7. Caroline Forbes (The Vampire Diaries) and Niklaus Mikaelson (The Originals)

Let’s look at this one as a loophole, rather than cheating. As Klaus has continued his story on The Originals, Caroline stayed put on The Vampire Diaries, and things have never been the same. Klaus and Caroline’s relationship was a slow burn, being mostly one-sided at the beginning. But when an attractive hybrid saves your life, then invites you to his family ball, a girl can only resist feelings for so long.

Once he got over the typical “thrill of the chase,” Caroline’s intelligence, strength and beauty hits him in full force. Klaus would quite literally do anything for Caroline. She seems to be the only one that can get him to express real feelings. This is something Klaus truly needs, and his brother knew it. In the backdoor pilot of The Originals, Elijah points out that as a child, Klaus was full of love and life to give, only wanting love in return.

Klaus is never more vulnerable than when he’s with Caroline. The beauty of the relationship is the give and take of it all. When everything hits the fan, it’s Klaus that Caroline turns to. He’s basically the shoulder that Caroline doesn’t realize she needs.  Now, Caroline is Mrs. Stefan Salvatore. But if Klaus had miraculously run in and stopped the wedding, would anyone really be upset? After all, he promised to be her last love…”however long it takes.”
