The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 12 “Say Yes” Recap

Rick and Michonne are back in ass-kicking action this week on The Walking Dead. Hopefully, the rest of the season will follow suit.

Let’s just jump right into the recap for this episode:

Let the search for guns commence. We kick off this episode of The Walking Dead with Rick and Michonne scavenging for supplies and guns and it’s clear that they mean business. They run into two men playing golf with a truck load of supplies. It appears that they steal some and go on their way. Rick wants to keep scavenging while Michonne wants to head back. They decide that one more day on the road won’t hurt. But will it? Queue the credits and the eerie music.

They run into a military base where they find shell casings for some “serious” bullets. The two begin walking around, in search for the big guns that these casings came from. Once they find the source of the guns (an entire literal army of walkers with their guns still attached to them), the roof they’re standing on breaks and the fall into a building full of cans and supplies. Looks like they just hit the jackpot. Are things beginning to look up?

While they’re enjoying a nice meal together, Michonne tries to talk Rick into being the leader once they take Negan out. Someone has to rule the world, right? Might as well be Rick Grimes. Once again, Rick is trying to persuade her that they can stay there as long as needed. Rick is trying to escape the real world the best he knows how and Michonne knows it.

In the morning, they start to clear out the fields of walkers. First, they need to block part of the fence that’s broken but their plan goes horribly wrong when a walker with an automatic gets stuck on something and the triggers gets held down. Michonne and Rick  jump in the care to hide as the attention of walkers get drawn to the vehicle. Guess there’s no time to waste now. They immediately start taking walkers out but it proves to be too much for them to handle. After months and months in a zombie apocalypse, they’ve fine tuned some skills on how to deal with a horde of walkers so they each lead a group to opposite sides of a field and go to town with their designated weapons.

Before Rick can finish his “section,” a deer catches his eye. He begins climbing a ferris wheel that he immediately falls off of. Michonne sees that he fell and rushed over, only to be greeted by a pile of walkers snacking on a body. Of course, Michonne thinks it’s Rick but anyone who has ever watched this show before could see that trick from a mile away. It was the deer and Rick was hiding. C’mon, guys.

Finally, the pair begins their long trek home and Rick gives Michonne a pep talk about how to remain calm during this Negan war.

They drop off the guns with the Scavengers but they’re not happy with the amount of guns Rick just provided. They want more. And I wonder where we can find more.

Back at Alexandria, Rosita is on the hunt for guns as well, risking life and limb. She’s bitter towards Father Gabriel and blames him on a lot that’s happened lately. She goes to the Hilltop to talk to Sasha. Rosita brings a hefty little weapon with her and the two decide that enough funny business. They’re taking Negan out all by themselves.

Tara, on the other hand, is feeling guilty about holding back her secret after seeing Rosita lose her mind. Now would be a good time to speak up, girlfriend.

Even though this episode was somewhat predictable and lacking action, I enjoyed the slow pace that we haven’t seen on this show in quite some time. It sets us up for what’s to come for the rest of the season and reminds us of the show that started back in 2013.
