Capitalize On What You Have

Even though we’re all kind of down on DC, it’s not all bad. There are things that actually work in the DCEU and should not be ignored, namely the actors.

Will Smith was an off the wall choice for Deadshot, but it worked. He was funny and charming and brought gravitas to the role. He also had great chemistry with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, who was obviously the breakout star of Suicide Squad. While the rest of the casting here may have been suspect (Cara Delevigne’s Enchantress was especially bad), these two really worked and should be given a lot more room to play in any potential sequel.

The main three are also pretty well cast: Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot. While Superman has some characterization issues and we haven’t seen too much of Gadot yet, Affleck could prove to be one of the better on-screen Batmans. His age and experience coupled with his ability to the do smarmy yet charming Bruce Wayne bit already make him a promising Batman.

There are also decent choices in the films that have nothing to do with the top quality actors involved. Batman in Batman v Superman emphasized his detective skills, something that is a defining character trait in the comics (World’s Greatest Detective!) but hasn’t been utilized much on-screen. It’s one way to really make this Batman stand apart from the dozens of others.
