The DCEU (that is, the DC movies) has been full of problems but we’ve got 15 ways they can turn it around and make great superhero movies going forward.
To say the DCEU needs help is an understatement. WB and DC’s big screen offerings have been at best underwhelming and at worst, a total and complete disaster. Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (actual title) and Suicide Squad all performed decently at the box office (not great, just decent) but received near-unanimous pans and derision from critics, fans and the general public.
I mean, what was Jared Leto’s Joker about? What was Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor about? What was that whole “Martha” thing about? What was Batman’s dystopian Mad Max dream about? What are they doing over there at DC?
To make matters worse, they’re living in the shadow of Christopher Nolan’s critically acclaimed Dark Knight Trilogy, not to mention the behemoth that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
That’s not to say all the upcoming DCEU films are going to be just as bad (fingers crossed so hard for Wonder Woman). There’s a chance that DC has heard the critiques and are making the necessary changes to the DC Universe. However, there are some things that absolutely need to be addressed before the DCEU makes any serious headway. If they want to win us over, they need to do the following.
