7. Missandei Is No One

“A girl is no one.” This utterance conjures up images of Braavos thanks, in no small part, to Arya Stark’s experiences.

And it’s thanks to this that we have Game of Thrones theories about Missandei, the loyal handmaiden of the Khaleesi: she’s a Faceless One – a Braavosi – as well.

This theory stems from the fact that Missandei has extensive language skills – skills that are uncommon for a handmaiden, especially one that’s supposedly “low born” like Missandei.

Plus, Missandei’s voice never seems to change inflection – whether she’s talking about ruling, or about killing, or about slavery, her tone never changes. This is something that we see is a pretty common trait amongst the Braavosi Faceless Ones.

Finally, it would explain how – and why – the Faceless Ones were only formally introduced in the fifth season – and it would provide a common thread throughout the timeline. Like Star Wars, Game of Thrones doesn’t leave open ends to its main characters: they’re all connected, somehow. This would explain how the Faceless Ones are part of the overall Westerosi saga.
