John Oliver Teaches Us About What is Happening with the Dalai Lama

For many of us, we think of the Dalai Lama as a man with great quotes but really that isn’t what he’s about at all. John Oliver teaches us about him.

The Dalai Lama is a political and religious figure in Tibet. For most Americans though, we know him as that guy from another part of the world who says some pretty inspirational quotes. But did you know that there are multiple Dalai Lamas?

For those who don’t know, the Dalai Lama is reincarnated and there is someone there to appoint a new Dalai Lama. The problem now is that China has taken the newly appointed Dalai Lama and no one has seen him in the last twenty years.

And the interview that followed with the current Dalai Lama was very much a John Oliver interview. Funny and informative, he truly captured what was happening with China and Tibet and gave us a look at this man that we only know for saying half our yearbook quotes.

As you can tell, even John Oliver isn’t really sure about all the background of the appointment of the Dalai Lama or what it is to be believed he can do. (At least we know the demon bit was a joke.)

But still, seeing this kind of interview and learning about the Dalai Lama in a new way is quite fascinating. Really we’ve only seen him in pictures or heard his quotes and this was a look at how personable he really is. John and the Dalai Lama just seem to have fun in this interview and it is truly remarkable.
