Sex and the City
The ladies of Sex and The City embodied so many of our dating and relationship struggles in the late ’90s and early ’00s. We watched as they struggled with weirdos, commitment-phobes, sexual identity, and fidelity. Although their lives were glamorous and impossibly luxurious, there was truth to their trials. When we left them, they were all in serious, successful relationships, and the movie followed up on their lives accordingly.
Now, Carrie and Big are obviously divorced, because you know, Big. Carrie still writes relationship advice, but she runs her own lifestyle website for women over 50. Inflation makes it hard for her to wear expensive shoes – Louboutins are a little more pricey than those Manolos and Jimmy Choos. She’s still living out her Manhattan-snobbery in her apartment in the Flatiron District, but she pays for it from the money she earned as a consultant for Gossip Girl.
Charlotte and Harry are busy raising their sweet, diverse family in her Upper East Side apartment. She has one of the most renowned collections of pearls, and works at her children’s posh private school. She contributes to a Mommy-blog here and there, and never misses a Soul Cycle or Hot Yoga Class. Plus, she runs the Ladies’ Auxiliary at Harry’s firm, mentoring younger wives in the ways of corporate etiquette and applied feminism.
Samantha had to let Smith go. Once he hit his ’30s, he was ready to have children, and Samantha’s baby-making factory has long been closed. She maintains him as a client and propelled his career to an Emmy win for his role as a public school teacher on the south side of Chicago. She still has an eye for the younger fellas, but spends her time with men in their late ’40s now who have enough ex-wives and grown children to discourage the desire for a real commitment from her.
Miranda not only went on to become a named partner in her law firm, but she ran for, and successfully won a seat as a Circuit Court judge. She and Steve still live in Brooklyn, raising a 15-year-old Brady to be a sensitive, caring young man. He’s captain of his debate team and has nine pairs of ironically dark-rimmed glasses.
