Friday Night Lights

Anytime I write about Friday Night Lights, I always find myself typing through tears. This series meant so much to me, and their finale did the show justice, and I’m forever grateful for that. In that last episode, Coach Taylor agreed to go to Philadelphia to be with Tami and the swanky new job she got at a private college. Matt Sarencen proposed to Julie Taylor, she said yes, and my heart exploded. Tim Riggins followed up on his promise to stay, “Texas Forever,” too. He bought himself a piece of land that he could call home. He and Tyra even reconciled their troubled past. It was comforting way to say goodbye to these characters.

If we find them now, we’ll see that Eric and Tami didn’t stay up North for too long. They are, and will always be, Texas folk, so when Tami was offered the position of Dean at the University of Texas, they jumped at the chance. To sweeten the deal, Coach was also signed on as a defensive coordinator. He quickly caught the eye of the right folks, and he worked his way up to head coach after a particularly beleaguered season.

Julie and Matt live in Chicago where they live a very creative existence. Matt is a working, although not that popular, artist and sculptor. Julie, however, writes children’s books, and is a huge success. There’s even talk about developing an animated series on PBS based on her books.

Tim Riggins, despite his checkered past, pulled himself up and overcame all his crap. He and Billy finally found a way to be brothers, and they spend Sundays throwing the ball around in the backyard with their children. Tim and Tyra never married, as a mutual decision, but live together in happy, non-marital bliss, with their little one.

Tim stays home during the day with the kiddo while Tyra goes to work as one of the youngest sitting City Council representatives. She has big political plans that have nothing to do with Sarah Palin.
