Sanford and Son

The ending of the very popular NBC comedy, Sanford and Son, wasn’t a respectful way for the hit to go out. Due to a lot of contract shenanigans, disputes about creative freedom, and a couple of reboots that tanked, Sanford and Son got a muddled ending not fit for such an excellent show.

Dropping in on them today, we’d find Fred back in the junkyard, but these days he’s supplementing his business with Craigslist and Ebay. He’s making a killing selling all that old junk to silly hipsters and millennial who’ve probably never seen a tape deck Fred is still a grouchy old man, but this gives him cred, and he’s enjoying all the success he can manage.

Lamont moved away from the yard, and got a regular nine to five job as an appliance repairman. He specializes in super fancy refrigerators and stoves – you know, the kind you find in zillion dollar homes with a handful of cars in the driveway.  He has a beautiful little house in a quiet suburb and there’s not a broken down car in sight.

Aunt Ester still lives next door and manages the Sanford Arms, the boarding house with rooms to rent. It’s more like a hotel for all those hipsters, but she doesn’t mind charging them $300 a night for them to share a bathroom a view of the junkyard. She knows how to give them what they want.
