Trevante Rhodes Teases His Involvement With Green Lantern Corps

Speaking with MTV, Trevante Rhodes was asked if he heard anything about appearing in Warner Bros. future Green Lantern Corps film. He smiled, we speculate.

The Green Lantern Corps movie is officially a go at Warner Bros. While the studio has stumbled with its first 3 releases, they’re not backing down from making the DC Extended Universe. For example, the Batman movie just found a director to replace Ben Affleck, but they’re about ready to throw a Nightwing movie into the mix. But I mean, Suicide Squad won an Oscar last weekend, so all arguments are invalid at this point.

It’s full steam ahead at Warner Bros. You can’t call them quitters, that’s for sure.

In light of this development, speculation began almost immediately as to who would don the green power ring in wake of Ryan Reynold’s previous Green Lantern debacle and subsequent rebirth as Deadpool. Some named Armie Hammer, while others ran with the John Stewart casting and picked Academy Award nominee Mahershala Ali or his co-star Trevante Rhodes. Of course, both actors starred in Moonlight and both would fill the role perfectly.

Luckily, MTV caught up with Rhodes at the 89th Annual Academy Awards. MTV’s Josh Horowitz asked, “They’re looking for a Green Lantern. Have you heard about that?”

Then, Rhodes smiled and said, “I don’t know.”

Watch the video below and try to tell me that smile doesn’t say, “Yes, I have heard about it. I’m asking my agents about it. I think the exposure would be cool. You know, John Stewart’s a cool character and I think, right now, it’s about representation. Being able to represent a certain group of people who are otherwise undervalued or overlooked.”

Okay, I know that smile seems to be very articulate. But I feel like Trevante Rhodes interviews really well. In fact, I saw him on Chelsea and was equally smitten.

So while it was only but a smile, a girl can dream. And after Moonlight took home Best Picture, it’s safe to say that Trevante Rhodes’ chance of getting the role increased exponentially, so stay tuned.
