Jay-Z Set to Produce Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In The Heights Movie

Just when you thought Lin-Manuel Miranda chance at an EGOT where over a new opportunity has arisen. Jay-Z is set to join In The Heights movie as a producer.

Lin-Manuel Miranda didn’t win the Oscar this past Sunday for his song “How Far I’ll Go” for the film Moana. Miranda had some tuff competition in the Oscar category of Best Orignal Song but La La Land‘s “City of Stars” took home the gold. The Oscar win would’ve had secured Miranda as the first and only MacPEGOT recipient and would’ve secured his legacy in the pantheon of greats.

While he might not have won the Oscar this time, the universe saw fit to give Miranda another opportunity at Oscar glory. The Weinstein Company announced in May 2016 it would be producing the Broadway hit musical In the Heights.

Unfortunately, for fans of the musical, Lin-Manuel Miranda revealed to Variety, he would not reprise his role of Usnavi in the film adaptation.

In a story that only Hollywood can make up, Page Six broke the news on how Jay-Z signed on to be a producer the night before the Oscars. At Harvey Weinstein’s pre-Oscar party a live performance of In The Heights was taking place. Jay-Z and Beyonce arrived late for the show, and Weinstein asked the performers to start over. Shortly after the performance, Weinstein stated from the stage Jay-Z signed on as a producer of the movie.

This isn’t the first time Jay-Z and Harvey Weinstein have worked together. Many forget that Jay-Z was a producer on the film Leonardo DiCaprio led drama The Great Gatsby. If one had to write the story of Lin-Manuel Miranda getting an Oscar, it should be for his unapologetic Hispanic story of In The Heights.
