18. Lola Stone (The Loved Ones)
This 2009 Australian film may have slipped under your radar. Depending on your opinions regarding gore, torture, and slasher films in general, this may or may not be a good thing. Whether or not blood and guts freak you out, though, The Loved Ones did produce a genuinely unsettling horror villain with one Lola Stone.
The Loved Ones doesn’t start out with Lola, however. Instead, it begins with Brent, a teenage boy who is part of a traumatic car crash that kills his father. Six months later, he’s planning to attend a high school dance with Holly, his girlfriend. Because he’s already got plans, he turns down Lola Stone.
She’s so outrageously hurt by his polite refusal that she catches Brent unawares, knocks him unconscious, and kidnaps him. Brent awakens to find himself tied to a chair. Lola, in a party dress, watches over him along with her father and a lobotomized woman called “Bright Eyes”. Lola’s father has turned the entire house into a dance for his daughter.
Lola eventually reveals that Brent is far from the first boy she’s kidnapped. In fact, she’s gone through quite a few teenagers in the search for her “prince”. Unfortunately, she tells Brent that he’s “just another frog”. Given Lola’s penchant for tools such as knives, cleavers, and syringes full of bleach, Brent’s got a long night ahead of him.
