The Biggest OMG Moments of Oscars 2017

The Oscars are a time for crazy wins and stars walking the red carpet. So here are the biggest oh my god moments of the night’s awards.

When it comes to award shows, the Oscars are the biggest around. Everyone tunes in to see what movies are going to win and we all make up our ballots to try and be the big winner of the night. And this year was no different. It just wasn’t as easy to figure out who was going to win.

So here are the biggest oh my god moments of the night!

Justin Timberlake Concert

The show started with Justin Timberlake singing his Oscar nominated song from the movie Trolls. It was…fine. Honestly, it wasn’t that great. And it was kind of lackluster. So the night started off a little weak. Not anything against Justin, it just wasn’t incredible.

Maybe because the song itself was just fine.

Jackie Chan in the Rafters

This was an OMG moment because why was Jackie Chan in the rafters? What did he do to get forced up into the second tier? Whatever it was, poor Jackie wasn’t on the main floor. We don’t know why, but let Jackie be friends with everyone. Please. He deserves that much.

Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel Make Up

Well, kind of. It turns into Kimmel making fun of Damon for giving up the role of Lee in Manchester by the Sea. Other than that, it was the two of them literally being their normal “we hate each other” selves.

Meryl’s Standing Ovation

Kimmel made some joke about Meryl being overrated and everyone pity laughed at him but then Meryl stood as did the entire audience. Because it is Meryl Streep and when you applaud Meryl, you stand up for it.

Supporting Actor Win

Mahershala Ali won for best supporting actor and it was definitely a deserved win. Honestly, this is an oh my god moment just because it was truly amazing. And he was the first Muslim actor to win an Academy Award.

How Far I’ll Go

For those who don’t know, Moana is an animated film that Lin-Manuel Miranda did the music for. And the performance of the Academy Award nominated song “How Far I’ll Go” was honestly really amazing.

Unfortunately the star Auli’i Cravalho was hit in the head with one of the props.

Viola Davis

Honestly, just watch. There is no way to describe Viola. She’s just amazing.

The Salesman

Asghar Farhadi won for his film The Salesman. For those who don’t know, Asghar is the director who could not come into the country because of Trump’s travel ban. And the speech he sent was absolutely incredible.

The Most Awkward of Bits

So Jimmy had a good idea. He thought it would be funny if he brought in tourists. At first, it was great until it went on for too long and made everyone uncomfortable. Especially the actors who had to sit there and pretend to be interested in all the people walking through.

Not that it was bad, it just wasn’t funny and it went on for way too long.

Celebrities Read Mean Tweets

Jimmy Kimmel has one bit that really works. That bit is Celebrities Read Mean Tweets. So of course he did it for the Oscars. And it was fine. Nothing great but just a funny bit.

John Legend’s La La Land Performance

While many are angry about La La Land, the performance that John Legend gave of the two nominated songs from the film were pretty amazing. Mashing up “Audition (The Fools Who Dream” and “City of Stars,” it was a great performance.

Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel

The two of them have had a rivalry through the ages. And we thought we’d seen the end bit of it. But then Kimmel did the ‘who inspires him’ segment with We Bought a Zoo and Matt Damon and it just continued on.

When Ben Affleck and Matt Damon came out, they played music over Matt Damon every time he tried to speak and honestly, it was truly one of the funniest parts of the night.

In Memoriam

It isn’t an oh my god moment and it isn’t something we enjoy but it is one of the most important moments of this show. And it was truly one of the saddest. Ending with Carrie Fisher, it was just a touching moment.

In Conclusion

The best actor categories and the Best Picture category went to everyone you thought would win. Casey Affleck won for Manchester by the Sea and Emma Stone won for La La Land. But the Best Picture winner was really a shocker. Mainly because the envelope was wrong and Moonlight ended up winning the award.
