We review Project Runway Junior Season 2 third place finisher Hawwaa’s collection, which she presented at the finale at FIDM for the judges.

It was initially meant to eliminate her, the first part of the Project Runway Junior finale. It was clear from the judge’s deliberations the week before that they wanted to eliminate her, but Tieler’s crash and burn was too great.

Instead what having the extra round did for Hawwaa was what having that extra round does for everyone in the regular world of Project Runway. It helped her focus, it gave her an extra round of critique that helped her style her pieces better. And it made her work harder than her competitors. Where Chelsea could just follow her muse to god knows where, and Chris could keep churning out Khol’s, Hawwaa had to win her way into the finale. And her collection, which has the best visual story to tell and the most cohesive build of the four collections was the better for it.

The result was that even though hers might have been two of the most jarring pieces shows to the judges last week, seeing them in context with the rest of the collection made them make sense and look better than they did the first time they showed, even though Hawwaa only did minor alterations.

Let’s get out her circus.
