Hugh Jackman Makes His Case for Wolverine in the MCU
By Buckie Wells
Logan is supposedly his last Wolverine film, but one call from Kevin Feige could make Hugh Jackman change his mind if it meant appearing in the MCU.
Apparently, Hugh Jackman doesn’t know that the MCU doesn’t do dark and moody. And when they do, they redeem the character by the next movie and say that he was brainwashed. It’s just not how they roll and it’s not how they sell toys to obsessive little kids.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe also doesn’t deviate very far from their tried and true formula. If and when they make moves, they do it slowly. Which means, Jackman might have to wait another 10 years before he can share the silver screen with Tony Stark.
But while speaking to Screenrant, Jackman spoke pretty plainly about Wolverine’s relationship with the MCU:
"If that was on the table when I made my decision, it certainly would have made me pause. That’s for sure."
Look, from a pure movie standpoint. The Wolverine we’ve watched for more than a decade doesn’t fit cohesively with the MCU. Plus, at this point, its time to free the Wolverine.
As Jackman added:
"It just feels like this is the right time [to leave the character]."
Hopefully, Jackman doesn’t taint what would otherwise be a picture perfect ending with his wishful thinking. In addition to earning a lot of positive reviews, Logan may also become Jackman’s highest-earning solo X-Men movie yet. Reportedly, it’s his final performance as the character. And at the same time, the MCU moves into its most ambitious phase yet. Basically, if you’re not appearing in Avengers: Infinity War, the MCU probably doesn’t need or want you right now. If they did, Wolverine: Homecoming would be coming later this year. Furthermore, the Avengers would’ve been on the table a long time ago.
